I read with interest the recent article by Simon Barrett about the claims by Councillor Geoffrey Theobald that the volume of chewing gum dropped on the street had been reduced by a third. What a load of rubbish (no pun intended).
Would Coun Theobald and the rest of Brighton and Hove City Council kindly remove their rose-coloured spectacles and take a walk up West Street, turn right down Duke's Lane, left at Ship Street, up North Street, left and first right to Cranbourne Street and then wander around Churchill Square?
The pavements are absolutely covered in this disgusting stuff. When are we going to wake up and ban the sale of gum or at least enforce the penalty for the dropping of gum? There again, you need someone to enforce littering generally such as police officers on the beat.
