Nigel Davis is quite right in calling for the easing of Sunday and evening parking restrictions in Brighton. It is a pleasure to go to Lewes on a Sunday and enjoy free parking.
However, there is no such thing as unnecessary residents' parking permits. Those of us who live on the fringe of a parking zone need the zones extended, to stop the unwelcome vehicles being dumped in our streets. A white van has been parked permanently outside my house since early December. It is taxed, so it can stay there.
Motorists may be a soft target, but if we all want to park at our convenience then we should expect to pay for that privilege.
