A COLLISION near Brighton Palace Pier in which a woman was injured involved two jet skis, says the RNLI.

The coastguard, lifeboat crews, police and ambulance service attended the accident which happened yesterday afternoon at around 3pm.

The coastguard helicopter was seen circling along Brighton seafront, with a rescuer dropped down on a winch to help the woman, who was on a jet ski.

She was then taken to the marina by lifeboat and transferred to an ambulance to go to hospital.

Emergency services were seen carrying the woman on a stretcher to the waiting ambulance.

Yesterday, a police spokesman said the incident involved a jet ski and a rigid inflatable boat - it also said the two people were known to each other.

But this morning, an RNLI spokeswoman confirmed the crash was between two jet skis.

She said: “Brighton lifeboat was tasked at 2.57pm to a report of a collision of two jet skis, south of Brighton Palace Pier.

“On arrival, the volunteer crew found a female casualty in the water.

“Also on scene was the city council’s lifeguard patrol boat. An assessment of the person was made.

“The lifeboat was then joined by a rescue helicopter from Lydd, who lowered their paramedic and specialist equipment to the lifeboat.

“In a combined effort the casualty was then brought on to the lifeboat and then transported to Brighton Marina, when Secamb [South East Coast Ambulance] took over the care of the casualty."
