A LARGE fire has broken out at a golf course.

The blaze flared up this afternoon at Seaford Head Golf Course in an area of bush near Chyngton Road.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) estimate the fire to be 100 metres by 200 metres in size, nearly five acres.

Four fire engines from ESFRS and two land rovers are in attendance at the golf course.

An ESFRS spokeswoman said: “We were called at 3.37pm, we have four fire engines and two Land Rovers at the scene.

“The fire is affecting an area of roughly 100 metres by 200 metres.

"There is smoke in the area and locals are being asked to keep doors and windows closed.

"Please do not attend the scene.

"There are no reports of injuries."

Another update from ESFRS confirmed that it was still there damping down and checking for hot spots. Firefighters were likely to be there into the evening.

Chyngton Road is closed between Arundel Road and Sutton Avenue while emergency services attend.

People have reported smelling smoke as far as Wilmington, near Polegate.

Last week, July 29, there was another fire near the golf course after hot weather.
