PUPILS got a real buzz as they tried their hands at beekeeping, financial investment and “speed dating”.

A group of Year 10 students from Hove Park School jumped at the chance to join a work experience day at Legal and General financial services group in Hove.

The nine budding workers met employees from the company in a speed dating-style event, finding out as much as they could about the role in a short space of time.

They then got to hang out with Ian White, Legal and General’s resident beekeeper, to learn how the beehives in Hove Park are doing wonders for biodiversity in the area.

Jo Roberts, a teacher at Hove Park School, said: “Our students absolutely loved taking part in their work encounter.

“They all got so much out of it but highlights for me were definitely the exercise where they had to think about where to invest, and the speed dating - and of course the bees."

The event was part of Legal and General’s diversity and inclusion activities – and included the chance for pupils to find out more about apprenticeships within the business.

Kully Bilkhu, who leads on diversity and inclusion at Legal and General, said: “It is important for us to raise awareness of the early career opportunities available within Legal and General’s retail division to highlight the diverse career options we have.

“The event was a great way to showcase this, while giving the pupils a taste of what it would be like to work in Legal and General’s Hove office specifically.”

One of the pupils said: "We really enjoyed it. We really liked doing the speed dating session as we found out about loads of different jobs."
