FIREFIGHTERS have managed to put out a massive 370-acre fire in just over an hour.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) were called to a field near Bury Hill in Houghton, near Arundel at 3.30pm this afternoon.
Seven fire engines, six off-road vehicles and a water carrier were in attendance.
The fire was “well alight” but crews managed to get it under control just over an hour after being called to the field.
A spokeswoman for WSFRS said: "At 3.32pm we were called to a field fire near Bury Hill, Houghton.
"On arrival 150 hectares of crops and stubble were well alight.
"At its peak we had seven fire engines, six off-road vehicles and a water carrier in attendance.
"The fire is now out and the incident has been scaled back. Fire engines and off-road vehicles from Billingshurst, Worthing, Littlehampton, Petworth, Storrington, Midhurst and Shoreham remain at the scene damping down."
