A SEAFRONT venue is to host an Oktoberfest later this year.

The event, which will take place over three weekends, will begin on Thursday, September 29, at Shelter Hall, Brighton, and run until Saturday, October 15.

Event organisers said the experience will be “better than ever”.

“This autumn, we're back and better than ever with our second Oktoberfest,” a spokesman said.

“Hosted over three weekends, we're transforming Shelter Hall into a Bavarian beer hall, donning our lederhosen and dirndls, inviting our favourite Sussex brewers to serve up steins of their signature craft beers, and soundtracking every session with a line-up of DJs and a Bavarian Oompah band.

“This year, every single session will include a live band performance.”

Seven independent kitchens will be serving up new autumn menus with German-inspired specials, including schnitzels from Chick Chick Crew, German-style burgers from Patty Guy and barbecue bratwurst from Sear.

People will be seated on the ground floor of the venue on communal tables while a DJ and a live Bavarian Oompah band add to the festivities, with singalongs, lederhosen and dirndls encouraged.

Germany’s Oktoberfest is finally on again this autumn after a two-year pause due to Covid-19.

The head of the famous beer festival Clemens Baumgaertner said: “The Wiesn will take place.”

He used the Bavarian colloquialism for the Oktoberfest which refers to the big lawn, or wiese, where the boozy celebrations take place.

He said the festival in the Bavarian capital will be held without any pandemic restrictions from September 17 to October 3, Germany’s national day.

“It will take place like we know it from 2019, and not in any other way,” Mr Baumgaertner added.
