THREE people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a four-vehicle crash on the A27.
Emergency services were called to the scene between the Fishbourne and Stockbridge roundabouts after the collision, involving a lorry, a black Nissan Qashqai, a red Peugeot van and a white Chevrolet on the eastbound carriageway.
The road was closed in both directions while the incident was dealt with, with three people taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A fourth person was taken to St Richards Hospital in Chichester with minor injuries.
Sussex Roads Policing Unit officers are investigating the collision, which took place around 4.10pm yesterday afternoon and have appealed for anyone who saw what happened to contact them.
Police are particularly urging anyone with relevant footage of the incident or of the vehicles in the area beforehand to get in touch.
