TWO people were injured as firefighters tackled a large blaze in a four-storey building.
Emergency services were called to the fire in a residential property in Eaton Gardens, Hove, at 11.29pm on Tuesday, August 9.
Firefighters from Brighton, Hove, Roedean, Lewes attended following reports of a fire, as well as crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
“The fire was at the top of a four-storey building, and two residents were handed over in to the care of the ambulance service,” an East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.
Crews were at the scene for around 7 hours to “ensure that the fire has been extinguished, to counter any flare ups and to ensure that the scene is safe”.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The operation was scaled down at about 6.45am on Wednesday, August 10.
A Brighton and Hove City Council spokeswoman said: “In the early hours of Wednesday morning, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to a large fire at the top of a four-storey building, Eaton Court on Eaton Gardens.
“A rest centre was set up to support residents in the church in Norton Road. This has now been stood down.
“Council staff were on site and worked closely with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, Sussex Police and the Red Cross to attend to the immediate needs of any residents following the fire.”
