GARDENERS are being called on to share their green-fingered glories to help raise funds for vital causes.

The National Garden Scheme (NGS) supports some of the country’s most important end-of-life care charities and is asking people to open their gardens to boost its crucial funding.

It is urging people who are proud of the gardens, big or small, to sign up and let others take a trip round their pride and joy.

Nick Waters, from Old Well Cottage in Angmering, opened his garden for the first time in July.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the experience,” he said “It is important for us all to enjoy outdoor spaces, particularly given the difficult few years during the pandemic.

“The NGS is a wonderful organisation, and we took great pleasure in helping raise funds for such worthwhile causes.”

Size is not an issue when it comes to popping your garden on display says the NGS. If your garden is interesting and you are proud of it then others will enjoy a tour.

Jennie and Trevor Rollings in Goring have a “normal garden”, to which people love to pay a visit.

“During the 15 years that we have opened our garden we have met many wonderful people and shared ideas which people have appreciated,” said Jennie.

“They have particularly liked the fact that our garden is a normal size suburban garden which allows them to realise what they can achieve in their own.

“There is nothing more special than sharing a garden that you love with other people and at the same time making money for such a worthy cause as the nursing charities of the National Garden Scheme.”
