CARE home residents had the "rootinest tootinest" time as the essence of the Wild West came to the home’s gardens recently.

Residents and staff at The Goldbridge Bupa Care Home in Haywards Heath enjoyed a cowboy-themed summer fete with family and friends, complete with folk music performances, a range of interactive games, a raffle and a themed buffet.

Organised by Patricia Driver, activity co-ordinator, and Felicia Burghelea, resident experience manager, the fete saw 200 guests from across the community come together to enjoy a western-themed afternoon in the care home’s gardens.

The team at The Goldbridge hosted folk band, Bucklers Reel, with residents and guests enjoying a medley of country music from across the decades.

Barbara Gorman, a resident at The Goldbridge, said: “I band made me tap my feet and the food was great.

“It was also lovely to see all the games that were planned for the children to enjoy. A total success, all in all.”

Fellow resident, Derek Kalyanvala, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the whole event and really admired the effort put in by the staff.

"I especially loved seeing them all dressed up as cowboys.”

And Mary Woolgar summarised the fete as “bloomin’ marvellous!”

“The entire team worked tirelessly to make our cowboy-themed fete a success,” said Ms Burghelea.

“Our saloon-style bar did a brilliant job at ‘wetting everyone’s whistle’ and it was great to see how much the children enjoyed playing badminton and crazy golf at the game stations.

“The games also went down a storm with the residents, with ‘guess the bunny’s name’ and ‘how many sweets in the jar’ proving to be firm favourites.”

Devendra Lallchand, home manager of The Goldbridge, said he was “proud” of his team.

“Our summer fete was a huge success, and I am so proud of the team for going above and beyond to make it a day to remember for our residents,” he said.

“The cowboy theme certainly went down a treat – though I am not sure how we will top it next year!”
