HEAVY rain has forced a train operator to close one of its lines for a safety inspection of the track.
Ballast on the track near Glynde railway station, near Ringmer, has become dislodged by the downpour.
Southern Rail has closed the line while Network Rail engineers check the area and make sure it is safe.
A spokesman for Southern said: “Some ballast beside the track near Glynde has been reported as having been dislodged by heavy rain, and some lines have closed while Network Rail engineers carry out a safety inspection.
“We're sorry that trains may be delayed by up to 30 minutes, and disruption is expected to continue until at least 5.30pm.
“Passengers whose journeys have been delayed by 15 minutes or more can claim Delay Repay compensation.”
Another update has confirmed that there is a rail replacement service between Lewes and Eastbourne.
Southern Rail confirmed the train line reopened by 5.55pm.
