THERE are huge near four mile queues on the M23 after a crash involving a van and car.

The crash happened this morning around 7.30am southbound at junction nine, near Gatwick Airport.

One lane of the M23 is closed and queues are stretching back into Surrey.

Traffic was held briefly while cones were laid down but has now been released with the lane closure remaining.

It not known if there are any injuries at the scene currently.

Recovery of the vehicles has been arranged. 

Delays stand at around 20 minutes currently.

All lanes were reopened at around 9.30am.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Officers were called just after 7.30am this morning, August 18, following reports of a collision between three vehicles on the M23 southbound carriageway between junction 8 and 9.

"Officers from Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit attended the scene, along with National Highways and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"One person received minor injuries. All lanes were closed while the vehicles involved were cleared and three out of four lanes have since reopened."
