"This is just like superstar karaoke," said Mark Ronson as he invited two of Brighton's very own Pipettes on stage.

Although the polka dot dress-wearing duo are not exactly household names, Ronson appeared as genuinely thrilled to see them as Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess, who sauntered on to sing a beefed-up, big band rendition of The Only One I Know.

Like an old fashioned revue, the guest stars just kept coming as Ronson reproduced live the superstar covers from his all-conquering album, Versions.

Rumble Strips frontman Charlie Waller performed a gloriously low and thundering version of Amy Winehouse's Back To Black, the awesome Kenna gave Radiohead's Just a jazzy workout, and everyone in the Concert Hall joined in for a celebratory sing-along to The Zuton's Valerie.

Although substitutes for the less available Britney Spears, Coldplay and The Jam, Ronson let each performer bask in the limelight while he seemed content to play guitar (and cow bell) from the sidelines and occasionally duck behind a speaker for a quick fag.

Despite winning three Grammys and picking up the award for Best British Male at The Brits on Wednesday, the 32-year-old producer/DJ proved to be a humble master of ceremonies who appeared happiest when letting the music speak for itself.
