AN INDEPENDENT supermarket is preparing to open another store in the city.
Taj the Grocer, which specialises in a range of organic and exotic fresh produce from across the world, will open a new shop in London Road, Brighton.
The supermarket’s “flagship” store is in Western Road in Brighton and it has another in Haslett Avenue West in Crawley.
The former Poundstretcher store is being refitted ahead of its opening, with shelving and several tills being installed at the shop.
Signs outside the store say the grocer will open soon.
The grocer is also set to open a new branch at the University of Sussex Falmer campus in September.
Taj has been a presence in the city for several years and was founded in 1965.
The store used to have a shop on the corner of St James’s Street and the Old Steine until 2010, which was taken over by supermarket giant Sainsbury’s.
Taj was contacted for comment.
