EMERGENCY services and RNLI teams have been called to a river after two young people were stranded on a sandbar.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue (WSFR) attended the scene at the River Adur near Shoreham toll bridge at around 3.40pm following safety concerns.

A passer-by told The Argus that around 20 personnel attended including teams from Shoreham RNLI, East Sussex Fire and Rescue, specialist water rescue and Secamb.

The two teenagers were taken to safety by the RNLI.

A spokesman for WSFR said: “At 3.36pm West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service received a call with concerns for the safety of two people who were in the water close to Shoreham toll bridge.

“Crews from Worthing and Littlehampton attended, along with colleagues from East Sussex Fire and Rescue, to assist the RNLI who were able to take the two individuals to safety.”
