ONE can understand the Greens' reluctance to use chemicals to control the weeds that have blossomed in our streets.
However, it is a dereliction of their duty to the residents to have no plans to make the pavements safe for people and animals.
What is wrong with using high temperature water jets? These machines can also be used for cleaning the chewing gum from our pavements. They are in use all over the continent for weed control, some machines can use waste water.
One supplier, Multivo is based in Lancashire. A few minutes search on the internet will discover many more suppliers and case histories. Yes, the problem has been allowed to get so bad it will probably take several applications to get it under control but after that once a year should be sufficient.
Brighton has so much going for it. Brighton and Hove Liberal Democrats would like to see an emphasis on attracting visitors who come to appreciate our Regency architecture, participate in the vibrant cultural life and enjoy the many concerts and music festivals. The dirt and dereliction in our streets makes us feel ashamed of a city that has so much to be proud of.
