A FAST food chain is set to make a return this autumn after closing a branch six years ago.

Burger chain Wimpy will open a new restaurant in The Beacon Shopping Centre in Terminus Road after its previous location closed in 2016.

Shoppers have spotted a “coming soon” sign with the brand’s logo and an invitation to apply for jobs at the restaurant.

A spokeswoman for Wimpy said: “We are all very excited about bringing Wimpy back to Eastbourne and can’t to welcome customers once again.”

The restaurant will open in October, but a firm date has yet to be announced for its return.

The new Wimpy is located next to a McDonald’s and opposite a KFC.

Wimpy has three other outlets across Sussex in Horsham, Worthing and Portslade.

The chain had more than 1,000 restaurants in 23 countries by 1970 but lost ground to McDonald’s after the brand opened its first outlet in the UK in 1974.

Among Wimpy’s signature menu items include the Kingsize burger and the pork Bender - a Frankfurter sausage shaped into a circle.
