ORGANISERS are hopeful Airbourne will be able to return next year amid concerns of rising costs and pollution.

The council will consider a number of factors before "coming forward with details as soon as we possibly can".

Last weekend's event featured planes from throughout the ages, including the RAF Red Arrows, Typhoon, Battle of Britain Memorial flight, a 1954 Strikemaster jet, Chinook HC6A and more.

Margaret Bannister, lead cabinet member for tourism and culture services at Eastbourne Borough Council, was at all four days of the airshow.

She said: “Officers were telling me that Saturday was the most they could remember for many years, it was a really good turnout.

“It’s one of the main dates on the calendar, but of course we have to scrutinise the environmental impacts and the costs of the event.

“We will be coming forward with details as soon as we possibly can.

“It does bring the town to life, it was buzzing all over the weekend. It’s good for traders and everyone else.

“There was a solar panel plane on the ground, hopefully that can be something that features at the airshow in the future.

“If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet then you can still do so at SaveAirbourne.com, with 30 per cent of the proceeds also supporting local charities.”

The council will be counting up how much money the event made in the coming weeks.
