A MUSEUM group could be in line for a funding boost after winning a top culture prize.

Brighton and Hove Museums has been accredited by Arts Council England – the benchmark for all well-run galleries and museums to achieve.

This opens the organisation up to greater financial opportunities, with the possiblity of new touring exhibitions.

Hedley Swain, chief executive officer for Brighton and Hove Museums, said:” The accreditation standard is a nationally recognised benchmark for well-managed museums.

“Having the standard is one of the reasons that UK museums are of such high quality and are so highly respected around the world.

“I am really pleased that all our venues have been awarded accredited status, and I am grateful to Arts Council England for their support.”

Brighton and Hove Museums recently announced their new name, previously known as Royal Pavilion and Museums Trust.

The group runs Royal Pavilion and Garden, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, Hove Museum of Creativity, the Booth Museum of Natural History and Preston Manor and Garden.
