THE DIRTY-BURGER restaurant concept has been rinsed to death. What was once a hidden gem in towns and cities across the UK now seems trite.

But Brighton’s newest restaurant Oowee has taken the idea further and given it a new lease of life – making its entire menu completely vegan.

And if you, like many people, think vegan food is “boring” or “bland” – then think again, because when The Argus visited the fast-food joint’s soft opening last night, both the food and atmosphere were untouchable.

Awash with orange and green, the small restaurant in Market Street makes excellent use of the limited space with a raised dining area and shared bench seating.

There is also a great view into the kitchen. It is always good to see your food being made. Nothing to hide here.

The place was absolutely buzzing and the people to either side of me were in awe of how good their food was, which only stoked my anticipation further.

My food arrived promptly. I went for The Other Side Chick and Popcorn Chick'n – both using the brand’s Chick’n. This is absolutely astounding stuff, all made in-house, and is worth making the trip for.

Gorgeous, sweet pickled onions with lashings of garlic mayonnaise and exactly the right amount of lettuce on top of crispy, succulent Chick’n. It was the best burger I have ever eaten, meat or otherwise.

And let’s not forget the Popcorn Chick’n – a great little treat and perfect for a snack while shopping in the city on a weekend.

The music is also worth a mention here.

Co-founder Charlie Watson used to run club nights in Bristol, where the brand began, and it is evident in the playlist: garage, house and a nice mix of funky tunes thrown in for good measure. It works.

The killer question: would I go back?

Undoubtedly. I am already planning to go with a few friends after it opens tomorrow.

And do I think it has a long-term future in our city?

An all-vegan fast-food joint in the middle of trendy Brighton, you say?

It could not be more at home here and will certainly do well.
