ALBION fans were in jubilant spirits after a victory against Leeds that briefly took them top of the Premier League.

Supporters packed the Amex for the match against Leeds United on Saturday, waving flags and donning Albion shirts and hats as they soaked up the last of the summer sunshine.

Albion stretched their unbeaten Premier League streak to a club-record of nine games after a strike by Pascal Gross in the second half secured three points for the Seagulls.

The Seagulls 1-0 victory took the team top of the Premier League, albeit for only a few minutes - being pushed down after wins for Arsenal and Manchester City.

Albion now sits fourth in the Premier League after four matches.

However, Albion’s victory was overshadowed by a number of reports of homophobic abuse at the stadium.

Seagulls fans reported abuse from Leeds fans, both at the Amex and on social media, with supporters on Twitter also accusing them of spitting at people and urinating in public.

A police spokesman confirmed that a number of incidents were dealt with at the match and said: “These incidents will be investigated in liaison with both Brighton and Hove Albion and Leeds United football clubs.”

Brighton and Hove Albion was approached for comment.
