HUNDREDS of dog owners and dog lovers flocked to one of the city’s largest parks for an annual dog show.

The Pride Community Day and Dog Show, part of Brighton’s Pride festivities, saw industry professionals judge dogs across a range of categories, including fancy dress, best rescue and waggiest tail.

Among the entrants at the Preston Park event was greyhound Edna, sporting a set of rainbow wings to impress the judges.

Edna’s owner, Alison Wood from the Brighton and Hove Retired Greyhound Trust, said: “Today has been really lovely, it’s been a really nice event for people to come together.

“I hope people will realise what lovely pets greyhounds are to have.”

Gareth Theobald, who was with his border terrier Cilla, said: “Today has been a great day to come together with all my mates and share our love of dogs.”

Alongside the awards, dog owners were able to browse a selection of stalls, enjoy live musical performances, and get a photo with their pets at a booth by award-winning photographer Chris Jepson.

The event had been due to take place in July, but was postponed due to the heatwave that saw temperatures soar past 30C across Brighton and Hove.

The dog show came just a few weeks after singer Christina Aguilera headlined this year’s Pride festival, wowing a crowd of thousands as in-person festivities returned for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Todrick Hall, Ella Henderson and Paloma Fiath also took to the main stage of the two-day festival earlier this month.
