PLANS to install solar panels on village halls around Rother are set to go before council leaders next month.
At their next meeting on September 5, Rother District Council’s cabinet is set to discuss a project seeking up to £500,000 to install PV panels on the roofs of village halls around the district.
The project aims to reduce emissions from these buildings by reducing the use of oil and gas energy, but could potentially see some excess energy sold back to the national grid.
According to meeting papers, 40 eligible venues have been identified within the district, 37 of which have already expressed interest in taking part in the project.
If given the backing of cabinet members, the spending plans will go to a full council meeting for final approval at a later date.
If approved in a full council vote, it is understood that the £500,000 would come from ring-fenced Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding.
