CARAVANS ordered to move from an “unauthorised encampment” by police have parked on neighbouring streets.

Dozens of police officers visited Hove Lawns this afternoon after 15 vehicles were seen parked up.

Around 20 officers used “police powers” to disperse the group but many caravans have moved to nearby roads.

A spokesman for the force said: “Sussex Police and Brighton and Hove City Council conducted a joint assessment of an unauthorised encampment on Hove Lawns on Wednesday morning, which included engagement and welfare checks with the group.

“Police powers were used to move the encampment from Hove Lawns, but several of the vehicles have remained in the vicinity on surrounding roads.

“Officers from Sussex Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Team are continuing to engage with both the council and the group, while maintaining a visible presence at the scene.”
