A WARNING has been issued about the dangers of "jumping" off the Palace Pier – as more details emerge after two men were left in hospital.

Two men swam around 300 metres to find one man unconscious and face down in the water, while another was unresponsive, shaking and clinging to a life ring under the pier.

Emergency services were on Brighton Seafront after two men reportedly “jumped” off the pier at low tide just before 7pm on Sunday.

A witness said how CPR was performed on one of the men for “30 minutes” while a large crowd watched on.

Three of the first responders were Brighton and Hove City Council seafront staff, Fabian Bull, Chaz Branson and Jake Walker.

Fabian said: “This was an extremely challenging situation.

“We worked to bring the two men back to shore as quickly as we could.

“Unfortunately, this again highlights just how dangerous it is to jump from a pier. At low tide, it’s impossible to tell how deep the water is.”

Chaz and Fabian swam out while Jake was waiting with resuscitation equipment to begin CPR. Paramedics were said to have arrived shortly afterwards.

Both men remain in hospital.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said:  “Two men were taken to hospital having reportedly jumped into the sea from Brighton Palace Pier.

“Police were alerted to the incident about 6.55pm on Sunday, August 28.

“Officers supported emergency services partners at the scene, and the men were left in the care of the ambulance service and taken to hospital where they remain.”

An eyewitness to the incident described the aftermath of the incident as like something out of a “horror movie”.
