The body of a woman found at the bottom of a chalk pit is not that of missing Diane Chenery-Wickens, police said today.
A walker found the body at around 4.30pm yesterday at the foot of the pit in Offham Road, Lewes.
Detectives removed the body and spent most of the night at the scene.
A post mortem is likely to be carried out today. Officers say the woman was in her twenties.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said officers are treating the death as "unexplained" but have out the possibility of it being Mrs Chenery-Wickens, the 48-year-old award-winning BBC make-up artist who vanished from her home in Duddleswell, near Crowborough, on January 24.
