RUPAUL’S Drag Race UK is set to return to TV screens later this month.

The BBC show sees drag queens face challenges that test their skills, from sewing and creating gowns and impersonating celebrities, to acting in a musical and creating choreography.

A trailer for the new series shows a series of drag queens, whose faces are not shown, wearing glittery and bejewelled gowns, with some adorned with feathers and pointy shoulder pads.

Two drag queens from Brighton, Joe Black and Anubis, have both featured as contestants on the show - although both were eliminated from the competition in the first week.

Contestants for the fourth series have yet to be announced, with the 12 contenders for the crown expected to be revealed in the next few days or weeks.

Joe Black, who took part in the second series of the show, caused host RuPaul to erupt in anger after wearing an off-the-rack dress from H&M on the runway.

Joe later donated the infamous dress to be raffled off to raise funds for The Sussex Beacon - a charity based in Brighton which helps people living with HIV.

“I wanted to do something good out of something that turned out to be negative,” Joe said.

Brighton-based drag queen Anubis also featured on the show's third season but was eliminated in the first episode, claiming "the curse of Brighton lives on".

A cast of celebrity guest judges has been unveiled for this year’s season, including Dame Joanna Lumley, TV presenter Alison Hammond, singer-songwriter Boy George, Years and Years star Olly Alexander and Spice Girls member Mel B.

Joanna Lumley said she is thrilled to be a part of the programme.

She said: “The show is astounding at every level, and I loved it from the very start.

“RuPaul is the definition of what it is to be fabulous, and the show is packed with mad creativity, humour and drop-dead glamour.”

Judges Graham Norton, Michelle Visage and Alan Carr are also set to return for this year’s series.

In an interview with Gay Times magazine, Graham Norton said that this year’s competitors are “some of the best queens we’ve ever seen”.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be broadcast on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer from September 22.
