I think it is crazy that both Eastbourne and Haywards Heath maternity units are being reduced to midwife-only units. What if there are complications with the mother or her unborn child? It is ludicrous to expect a mother to travel long distances to another hospital with the necessary facilities.
It is a stressful time for all concerned without worrying about what would happen if there were complications.
I also understand that home births may be banned, which would increase pressure on the already reduced facilities at local hospitals. Surely this is a backwards step. A mother should have the right to choose where she gives birth.
