A WOMAN has raised more than £5,000 by shaving her head to raise money for her godson who was diagnosed with a second brain tumour.
Jude Jefcut, ten, was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020. He had gone for an eye test on his eighth birthday after suffering from headaches.
Jude and his mum Katie were given the good news he was cancer free last year after being treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
Another check-up in April revealed the tumour had returned.
His godmother Tracy Kennedy, 52, from Hove, is one of many people who have been fundraising for specialist treatment that Jude would have in Germany or Greece.
She has now raised more than £5,000 and had had her head shaved for her “little warrior”.
She said: “I was a bit nervous, it was a bit of a realisation that at the age 52 I was going to have a bald head.
“It was fine though. My twin sister, partner and parents were there. We did a bucket collection.
“I then had to go straight into a Zoom meeting at work, they were a bit shocked. But it gave me a good opportunity to tell them and they donated as well.
“I’m just getting used to the hair, I don’t have to blow dry it any more in the morning. I ride a motorbike so even taking my helmet off is easier.”
Tracy had her head shaved by Simon Webster, who owns Simon Webster Hair in Gardner Street, Brighton.
There has also been a raffle and the person who won a signed Manchester United football shirt gave it back to Jude, who lives in Milton Keynes but spends much of his summer in Arundel with family.
Tracy added: “We’re just waiting for this biopsy to be sent. He is waiting for trials at the Marsden. He’s doing all right, he has had a great time with his cousins.
“I facetimed him and he was a but shocked but I told him about the football shirt and he was happier about that then worrying about my hair.
“The family are remaining positive which we have to continue to do.”
The family are hoping to raise around £40,000 to cover all costs.
