A 78-year-old pensioner has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Sussex Police arrested the man after another man was found unconscious in Storrington on Sunday (September 4) morning.

Police were called just after 10am to reports of a man unconscious in High Street.

Residents of the town said the men were involved in an argument over a dog.

A 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: “Police responded to a report of a man unconscious in High Street, Storrington. Sadly the man was pronounced deceased.

“There is a heightened police presence, including forensic officers, in the area. It is likely the road will be closed for several hours while the investigation continues.

"Members of the deceased man’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

“A 78-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. This is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the wider community.”
