A MURDER probe has had a devastating impact on a quiet countryside town.

Photographs have revealed the torment of residents, after a man was found unconscious in High Street, Storrington, on Sunday morning.

Police responded shortly after 10am and attempted to resuscitate the 49-year-old, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 78-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder.

Residents said the two men became embroiled in an argument about a dog.

Pictures from the scene on Sunday show a large cordon around a blue police tent, with a significant police presence.

A team of forensics could also be seen yesterday.

Skye, 19, who works in nearby pub The Moon, said “All we heard was sirens and then lots of screaming and shouting.”

She tried to give the man privacy and added: “The next thing I knew, I could just see the police officers doing CPR.

“The heartbreaking thing is witnessing them give CPR to someone and then it has not worked – it is not something I wanted to witness.”

Anyone with information which could be useful to the investigation should contact Sussex Police on 101, quoting Operation Kingscross.
