Having for many years listened to the Tories on Brighton and Hove City Council brand George Street's pedestrianisation and other sustainable transport initiatives as a "war on the motorist", I am interested to hear about the rise in parking charges they are proposing.
The cost of a resident's parking permit will rise by 30 per cent to £104 per year and visitor's permits are doubling in cost to £2.
It does not come as a surprise to me that a Tory city council should introduce tax rises which bear no resemblance to their manifesto pledges, but no doubt it will be to many voters.
