Something is afoot here: I've now lost count of the number of people who have asked me if I've heard that MGMT single.
That single is Time To Pretend, an unforgettable blast of shimmering psyche-pop topped off with an unmistakable, screwy synth line.
It's great, but don't be deceived by their debut's synthetic bounce - MGMT are here to rock you. To psyche rock and to prog rock you. To space. And back...
Tuesday night was proof that, shorn of Dave Fridmann's domineering production, MGMT are an immensely powerful rock band poised for flight.
And they astonished a heaving Pressure Point with slick musicianship and a barrage of trippy future hits that seemed to skip between decades of rock history with total ease.
They have the material, vision and the power. If the hits keep coming, this is a band that can potentially compete with your Mercury Revs and My Morning Jackets on those lofty festival stages.
