A COLLEGE has revealed major plans to improve its campus.

Varndean College in Brighton has announced its intention to submit a planning application for a scheme that aims to improve its campus for students, as part of a five-year masterplan to enhance its educational facilities.

The proposals include new high-quality teaching space, a new entrance building with a café, improved communal space and a new sports hall, which can also be used by local community sports groups.

According to the college, buildings will be designed with low carbon in mind, and landscape enhancements include tree planting and links to local wildlife corridors.

And it hopes to submit a planning application later this year.

“We want to enhance our facilities and use our beautiful estate to its best advantage for our students and for our community and keep sustainability at our core,” said Donna-Marie Janson, principal of Varndean College.

“We will be submitting a planning application later this year, so that we can apply for government funding grants to improve our buildings and facilities in a phased approach, allowing us to make significant improvements so that we can continue to deliver a superb learning experience for our thousands of young and adult students.”

The college has now invited residents to comment on the plan.

Proposals will be on display at a drop-in exhibition on Thursday, September 8 from 1pm-8pm at Varndean College and online at varndean.ac.uk from September 8 to 22.
