A LAGER-LOVING man is hoping to smash the record for most pubs visited in one day, all while raising vital funds for animals in need.

Nathan Crimp, 22, has mapped out a route of 75 pubs in Sussex which he aims to visit in one day to break the current record of 56.

He will start at Ye Olde Black Horse in Rottingdean this Saturday morning and hopes to reach Revolution in West Street, Brighton, 13 hours later at midnight.

“I suppose my training has been the last four years of drinking most weekends,” he said.

“But there has actually been quite a lot of work behind the scenes with phoning ahead to each pub to make sure they’re happy for us to come.

“My friends have been quite supportive.”

Nathan, from Saltdean, is hoping to raise £1,000 along the way, helped along by dressing up as a life-size pooch.

He was inspired to donate the money to Dogs Trust after his beloved dog, Kara, died of pancreatic cancer in 2020, aged nine.

Nathan found Kara through Dogs Trust in Shoreham.

“She was a big part of my life,” he said.

“She died a few years ago and left a big hole in my heart.”

So Nathan and his friends, accompanied by an independent adjudicator, have fired up the spreadsheet, planned their route, and are tackling the huge challenge in memory of Kara.

To break the record, Nathan will need to have one drink in each of the venues – though it can be a small drink and does not have to be alcoholic.

“We’ll start with a pint in the first few I think, then move on to something soft and smaller for the main ones.

“I reckon for the last 20 or so we can get back on the pints, though.”

Nathan is raising money through his Go Fund Me page, with proceeds going directly to the Dogs Trust.
