A NATIONAL value shopping chain is launching a chilled and frozen food range to tackle soaring living costs.

Poundland is overhauling its entire portfolio of stores as people struggle to make ends meet.

It will see fresh meat and fish sold from the bargain retailer as well as frozen products, with Horsham’s West Street store set for the new items from September 24.

The line starts at just £1 and will include ribs, steaks, bacon, sausages, mince, salmon and cod fillets.

Poundland’s chilled and frozen food programme, Project Diamond, was accelerated after the brand bought Fultons Foods in 2020.

Austin Cooke, Poundland’s chief operating officer, said: “Our colleagues are working hard to bring their communities more value on the items they want and need.

“As we extend into exciting new categories such as chilled and frozen food and clothing, whether customers want a full shop or to top-up, we’re continuing our mission to deliver the very best value, on the items we know our customers need most.”

Project Diamond will see half of all Poundland stores stock the new line by the end of the year, the company said.

It comes as the demolition of a Poundland store in Brighton began last month to make way for student housing.
