A GROUP of neighbours banded together for their annual street party to raise money for two charities.

It was the sixth time people have come together for a day of fun in Ferndale Road, Hove.

The street party had activities for adults and children alike, including face painting, a bouncy castle, live music, burger van, drinks stall and much more.

Money raised has gone to Trussell Trust Food Bank and Pelican Parcels, a charity that provides second-hand clothing and other items for disadvantaged families in the city to provide for their babies and children.

Claire Mann, one of the residents involved in organising, said: “Every year that we have done these street parties they have got busier and busier. There has been more awareness about them because we try to let everyone know in Brighton.

“Everyone is invited, it’s not just a private thing for our street. We want to raise as much money as possible but we also see it as a way of reclaiming the streets a bit.

“Seeing children playing on our street is so lovely, it’s a bit of a throwback to times gone by.

“It brings together the whole community, young and old, in our street and area. Everyone gets to know each other better each time.

“It was very important for us to raise money for two extremely important charities when we have one hell of a winter coming up. It’s really important to support the food bank and Pelican Parcels.”

The street party was held on Saturday all day into the evening.

Last year, the residents raised more than £500 for the two charities and are hoping to top that this year.

There was also a raffle which saw one lucky youngster win the top prize, a Squier Strat Guitar by Fender.

The street also raised a glass to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her death last Thursday.

Firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service made an appearance at this year’s event, much to the delight of the children, as well as a few adults.
