A SERVICE is being launched to offer advice and support to grieving adults.

The support service is designed to provide practical help with tasks such as paperwork and funeral planning and can be accessed by anyone over 50 no matter how long ago their bereavement was.

Provided by Age UK, different forms of support range from counselling services to cooking classes in order to help people get back on their feet after the death of a close friend or relative.

Rowan Hillier, senior development manager for Age UK in West Sussex, Brighton and Hove, said: “We want to be there when people need someone to turn to, so they don’t become isolated as they grieve.

“Our new service is practical, helping people based on their individual needs. As well as assisting with things like registering a death and planning a funeral, it also helps people get back on their feet after the shock of a bereavement and learn skills they might need now their loved one, often a partner, has died.”

The service, which is set to launch on Monday, October 3, is now open for referrals. More information can be found by emailing bereavement.service@ageukwsbh.co.uk or by calling 08000 191310.
