A PEACEFUL protest took place yesterday afternoon following the death of 24-year-old Chris Kaba.

Huge crowds gathered outside Brighton police station in John Street as part of the call to action, with further protests taking place in London and other locations around the country.

It comes amid the national outpour of grief and anger after Mr Kaba, who was due to become a father, was fatally shot by a Met Police officer on September 5 in south London.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has since confirmed that he was unarmed.

The IOPC has launched a homicide investigation following Mr Kaba’s death and the officer who fired the fatal shot has been suspended by The Met.

The Justice for Chris Kaba campaign called for the national day of action last week, prompting several localised protests.

The protest in Brighton was organised by the Stand Up to Racism group with the blessing of Mr Kaba’s family.

A large crowd gathered and speakers took turns to share messages of support and moving speeches.

Protesters chanted “no justice, no peace” and held signs calling for justice for Mr Kaba and stating Black Lives Matter.

Cars driving past beeped their horns in solidarity, with passers-by joining the crowd to hear the speakers.
