FIREFIGHTERS attended a blaze in the first floor and roof of a house.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines to Byrd Road in Crawley yesterday afternoon.

Crews were at the scene for around three hours putting the fire out.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were called at 4.34pm on Saturday September 17 to reports of a fire involving a residential property on Byrd Road in Bewbush, Crawley.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised fire engines from Crawley, Horsham and Turners Hill to the scene, along with the Incident Command Unit from Haywards Heath.

“Upon arrival, crews found a fire involving the first floor and roof space of the terraced property, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly got to work extinguishing the fire. They used three high pressure hose reels and two jets to bring the fire under control.

“Firefighters remained on scene cutting away and damping down and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further signs of fire.

“They left the scene shortly after 7.30pm, before returning again at 9pm to carry out a reinspection, but no further action was required.”
