THESE pictures show the scene after a serious crash between a lorry and a motorcycle on the A27.

Part of the road between Southerham Roundabout in Lewes and Beddingham Roundabout has been closed following a crash between the two vehicles just after 7.30am.

A diversion is in place across parts of Sussex, causing congestion along the A26 coastbound into Newhaven and west on the A259 into Seaford.

Police have been called to the scene of the crash, with a crime scene marker placed on the road near some debris.

A forensics officer was also spotted at the scene of the incident, with a screen put up along part of the A27.

A spokesman for National Highways confirmed that “at least one person has sustained serious injuries”.

He said: “Sussex Police currently lead the response to a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry, which was reported at approximately 7.38 this morning.

“The road has been closed in both directions to allow the emergency services to work safely at the scene.”

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “The A27 is currently closed in both directions between the Beddingham and Southerham roundabouts at Lewes following a serious collision this morning.

“It is expected to remain closed for a number of hours as officers respond.

“Motorists are advised to find other routes.”
