Brighton beach served as inspiration in biscuit week on the Great British Bake Off last night.

Opening the second episode of the Channel 4 series, Janusz Domagala from Brighton did not let winning star baker during cake week last week go to his head.

“I don’t think being star baker last week gives you anything this week because anything could happen,” he said.

“Biscuit week here I come.”

This week the 11 remaining bakers were set a signature challenge of creating 18 identical decorative macarons that looked like something other than a macaron.

Starting positively Janusz said: “They can explode, they can underbake, they might stick to the mat.

“There are 87 things that could go wrong with them.”

The 34-year-old, who lives in Brighton, opted for a watermelon macaron inspired by the city.

“My inspiration for this bake is Brighton beach,” he said.

“Because what’s better than to have cold watermelons on the beach?”

The judges loved the taste and appearance of Janusz’s bake, but said it was dry.

Next up was the garibaldi technical which saw Janusz place 6th.

And in the final showstopper challenge he wowed the judges with his spiced Polish biscuit, strawberry sugar biscuit and matcha biscuit mask masterpiece.

“It punches you between the eyes with flavour,” said Paul.

“I love that,” said Prue.

Star baker went to Maxy, while Maisam was the second contestant to leave the tent.

Next up for Janusz is bread week.
