ONE person has been taken to hospital following a crash on Brighton seafront.

Emergency services attended the incident on the A259 Kings Road at around 11am this morning. 

Fire crews, police and South East Coast Ambulance (Secamb) teams were all spotted on the scene. 

Secamb have now confirmed that one person was taken to hospital after being treated by paramedics.

A spokesman said: "Secamb was called to reports of an RTC on Kings Road, Brighton, at approximately 11.10am today.

"Ambulance crews attended and two patients were assessed and treated at the scene, before one of the patients was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital for further checks."

A blue car was severely damaged after colliding with the railing outside The Salt Room in King's Road.

Debris was seen scattered across the road while work was done to clear the busy thoroughfare.

One passerby said traffic onb the seafront was badly affected.
He said: "I came into Brighton for work but was stuck on the seafront. If you were driving westbound they were sending you up Cannon Place to go round and double back.

"Hopefully everyone's ok. Hopefully it looked worse than it was"

A East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman confirmed that one person had been extricated but that two cars had been involved in the crash. 

She told The Argus: “At 11.08am, we were called to attend an RTC on King's Road, Brighton.

"Firefighters from Preston Circus attended. The RTC involved two vehicles. 

"One person was extricated from one of the vehicles and handed over into the care of Secamb.

"We left the scene at 12.05pm."

The crash caused mass disruption on the roads for several hours while emergency services attempted to clear the area. 

Traffic travelling in both directions on the A259 was blocked and several diversions were put in place, such as up Cannon Place.

Brighton and Hove Buses also saw a number of routes disrupted into the afternoon, citing heavy congestion as the cause.

Shortly before 2pm, a spokesman for Sussex Police announced that the road was reopened and traffic began returning to normal in the afternoon.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “RTC reported at 11.08am on September 22 in Kings Road, Brighton involving two vehicles.

"Temporary road closure was in place, now reopened."
