AN MP’s member of staff has apologised for calling a father and his baby fascists at a rally in Brighton on Sunday.

Carly-May Kavanagh was filmed at the counter protest at the Let Women Speak event in Victoria Gardens over the weekend.

Ms Kavanagh, who is a member of Lloyd Russell-Moyle’s policy staff, was seen shouting at the man and his child along with another protester saying he is “raising a little fascist”.

She is also seen saying: “You think that’s ok do you? To raise a child who believes this filth, to raise a child who doesn’t accept trans people - it’s 2022, you’re disgusting.”

Ms Kavanagh has since apologised on Twitter, she said: “I got angry with a man holding a child at a protest on Sunday.

“I want to say I’m deeply embarrassed by my actions.

“I acted rashly in the heat of the moment and I regret that.”

She also wrote on Tuesday: “I let down the trans community with my behaviour.

“My desire to protect my trans friends led me to act in a way that I shouldn’t have.

“I am embarrassed by my actions and I am sorry.

“This has been a tough learning experience for me and should be a lesson to us all.

“My shouting and manner was wrong and is now being used against the trans community that we all want to support.

“I was in the wrong and it won’t happen again.”

A spokesman for Lloyd Russell-Moyle said: “We don’t comment on internal staffing matters.”
