ARMED police stopped a car along the A259 as part of a Metropolitan Police investigation.

The car was stopped westbound in Kingsway near Brunswick Square, Hove, on Saturday night.

The people in the car were detained and searched while police searched the car for firearms but no weapons were found.

Sussex Police said it was part of a Metropolitan Police investigation.

A bystander described the “dramatic” scene as “police cars swooped on the car and put the people in handcuffs”.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Armed police stopped a vehicle near Brunswick Square in Hove at about 7.10pm on Saturday, September 24, to assist with a Metropolitan Police investigation.

“The occupants of the vehicle were detained and searched whilst the vehicle was checked for firearms.

“No weapons of any type were found.

“The occupants and vehicle were allowed on their way and enquiries are continuing.”
