A NURSERY told it must improve said it has taken the feedback “very seriously” and has a plan in place.

Supersaurus Nursery in Cromwell Road, Hove, received a rating of "requires improvement" from watchdog Ofsted following an inspection in August.

Inspectors said the nursery must improve the child development knowledge of its staff working with its younger children to ensure they provide “sufficient and appropriate resources” to enable toddlers to benefit fully from every learning opportunity.

Ofsted also said Supersaurus must improve the monitoring of staff practice and support staff to ensure that babies and children are consistently engaged in “enjoyable and challenging experiences” that meet their learning needs.

It must also review and improve systems to ensure that developmental delays are identified promptly and additional support is provided at the “earliest opportunity”.

However, nursery staff were praised for how they encouraged children to recognise and express how they are feeling, the good relationships formed between children and staff, and the attentiveness of staff.

The report stated: “Children are warmly welcomed into this nursery by the caring staff.

“However, there are some inconsistencies in the quality of education and in staff expectations of younger children's behaviour. Children generally appear happy and enjoy their time in the nursery.

“Staff are attentive to the children they are interacting with, but some adults are less vigilant with others. At times, some children are not fully engaged in meaningful activities."

A nursery spokesman said the inspection judgement had been “disappointing” but staff have addressed concerns as a “matter of priority”.

“Following the recent disappointing inspection judgement, we have taken Ofsted’s feedback very seriously," he said.

“Our priority as always is the wellbeing and education of the children in our care and our partnership with parents. We know that parents place a huge trust in us to do the best for their family and we are doing all we can, as a matter of urgency, to maintain their trust and confidence.

“We have a development plan under way at the nursery and are committed to delivering the quality of care and education that we can be proud of.

“We are heartened by positive comments within the inspection report but also mindful of the observations that have led to this overall rating.

“We have addressed these concerns as a matter of priority, and we have provided additional support to the nursery from our highly qualified early years specialists and regional team.”
