The Wedding Singer provides plenty of action and vitality, but little finesse or style.
Based on the hit movie, this 1980s celebration has a new musical score, which makes for some lively dance routines - but, unfortunately, most of the lyrics are instantly forgettable and don't match the original.
Natalie Casey, as Julia, a waitress with a heart of gold, steals the show from Jonathan Wilkes, who is impressive as wedding singer Robbie but lacks her acting ability and charisma.
Robbie, having become bitter and moody after being jilted at the altar, falls for Julie after she asks him to sing at her wedding to rich boyfriend Glen (Stephen Webb).
But a potentially good story line lacks real romance and a lot of the intended humour fails miserably.
Good supporting performances from Jodie Jacobs, Simon Lipkin, Nick Hayes and Tricia Deighton, as an outrageous grandma, help the dazzling Natalie Casey and the energetic Jonathan Wilkes save the day.
