Three men suspected of robbing a security van in Sussex were arrested just hours later in the West Midlands.
House to house enquiries and police intelligence helped detectives trace the trio after thousands of pounds were stolen in the raid in Woodingdean, Brighton.
A man dressed in black threatened a security guard as he delivered cash to Tesco Express in Warrant Road today.
He got away with two accomplices in a silver Renault Megane.
Police found the car, which is thought to have been stolen, in nearby Warren Rise.
The cash raid happened at 11am. By 3pm the suspects were stopped on the M40 and arrested on suspicion of robbery.
The men were tonight expected to be brought back to Sussex for questioning.
