ENTREPRENEURS are to be supported in setting up social businesses as part of a new initiative.

The support programme includes workshops focusing on social enterprise models and developing social missions as well as providing network opportunities.

Funded by Lewes District Council in partnership with not-for-profit agency Edeal, the free one-day event is targeted at those who have recently set up or have an idea for a social enterprise.

Councillor James MacCleary, leader of Lewes District Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for would-be social entrepreneurs to get the support they need to start making a positive difference in our communities and contribute towards creating a sustainable local economy.”

Following the workshops, people will also be offered one-to-one mentoring in order to progress their social enterprises.

Councillor Johnny Denis, cabinet member for communities and customers, said: “We want to grow more businesses with a social or environmental purpose in Lewes district and this free programme provides excellent help for people to develop their ideas and launch their own enterprise.”

The workshop will take place on Friday, November 4, in Lewes Town Hall. Places are limited so those wishing to attend should book by emailing info@edeal.org.uk or call 01323 641144.
